Exploring New Elements

Last week I revealed that I would cease all work on Project Amethyst in favor of a new project but I didn’t really explain why. Well, if you ever happened across my project page for Amethyst, you would find that I had anticipated a year or more until reaching even an alpha stage for the game. Turns out that makes it practically useless as a portfolio piece to show to potential employers. So, I decided to start a new project that I will be able to: 1) publicly release and 2) finish in half or less of the time as Amethyst. I needed to put my passions aside and focus instead on showcasing my skills.

With that, I would like to formally announce:

Elementary is a chemistry-based metroidvania taking heavy inspiration from the likes of Super Metroid and Ori and the Blind Forest. This new project will feature expansive areas to explore and numerous powers to obtain. The game follows a young explorer venturing into the cosmos to catalog the resources of a young universe. Utilizing some fast-and-loose chemistry, the explorer will be able to use the elements they find to traverse and interact with the environment.

I have already laid the groundwork for the project in engine and have already completed the variable jump mechanic. As I mentioned last week, I will be keeping a running dev log for Elementary in the same fashion as Amethyst. Keep an eye out for the first update, as well as more information going up on my site.

Until next time, thanks for reading!
